Teenager Katniss Everdeen begins her journey with a narrow definition of Aries and Cancer – her only concern is providing enough food for her younger sister and mother to survive in the poorest district of a dystopian society. After she volunteers as tribute to take her sister’s place in the annual national arena of death known as the Hunger Games, her Aries nature grows stronger and her concept of Cancer expands to include first her district, then fellow tributes, then all of the districts suffering under the evil dictator Snow.
She is reluctantly pulled into protecting Libra (which ultimately becomes her strongest alignment) and Capricorn via a new world order. Gemini is seen in the media’s manipulation of Katniss’s image from an impoverished girl protecting her sister, to a star-crossed lover, to the girl on fire, and finally as the Mockingjay, the personification of revolution. Author Suzanne Collins said her inspiration was the myth of the Greek city states having to send a boy and girl as tribute to be devoured by the Minotaur. A perverse form of Taurus is exhibited by the inhabitants of the Capitol City.
